Spinal fractures

Spinal fractures in dogs and cats are often referred to our practice for specialist surgical stabilisation. Such animals are likely to sustain other life-threatening injuries which should also be addressed. Fracture of the spinal column is a serious injury due to the possible damage to the spinal cord and the risk of paralysis.

Diagnosis is achieved by imaging of the spine radiographically or via CT scan. Surgery can then be used to achieve permanent stabilisation of the spine. To achieve this, our specialist surgeons commonly use orthopedic implants such as pins and screws in combination with bone cement.
