Pet Poisons

There are any number of household and industrial items that can be toxic or deadly to our pets.  If you have reason to believe that your pet has ingested any substance in the following list it is best to contact a veterinarian for advice. Emergency animal hospitals can provide 24 hr care in the case of severe poisonings.
Chemicals:
  • rat bait
  • snail bait
  • dog flea products used on cats
  • household cleaners
  • paints and varnishes
Human foods:
  • chocolate
  • macadamia nuts
  • raisins or grapes
  • onions and garlic
  • rhubarb leaves
  • alcohol
  • mouldy food
  • pear pips, plumb kernels, seeds of stone fruit
  • coffee or tea leaves/grounds/drink
  • Human drugs:
    • panadol/panadeine
    • aspirin
    • nurofen
    • marijuana and other illicet drugs
    • cigarettes, tobacco, cigars
  • Other animals
    • snake bite
    • tick bite
    • toads
  • Plants
    • lilies (cats)
    • rhododendrons and azelias
    • oleander
